Macs are great machines, they really are, but they have some quirks. One thing I ran into was that I had a 8 GB file on my Macbook and I need to get it on to a PC. The problem is, if you transfer a file over 4 GB from a Mac to a USB Drive (formatted as Fat32), the file gets split. This creates many problems, so using Ubuntu Linux, I found a solution. Here is what I did:
1. Formatted a 16 GB USB thumb drive to HFS (Mac file system)
2. Transferred the file to the HFS Formatted thumb drive
3. Put an Ubuntu Linux 9.10 Live CD into my Windows based PC and booted to the live CD
4. Plugged the thumb drive into the PC
5. Transferred the file from the HFS formatted thumb drive to the C:\ drive on the Windows PC
6. Restarted the Computer, took the Ubuntu Live CD out and logged into Windows to find my file intact
Hopefully this will help someone out there who runs into a similar situation, if you like this post, leave me a comment, if you have questions, contact me.
